Information evening
“Women going through the change”
Task
On behalf of the Swiss Menopause Society, H+O planned and organised the
information evening “Women going through the change” in
February 2003 for those either affected by or interested in the subject,
and the lay press. An earlier media report concerning the premature
ending of a study conducted in the USA with the help of women going
through the change had left many women feeling uncertain. The
information evening by the Swiss Menopause Society was intended to
illustrate the use and risks of hormone replacement therapy. One of the
tasks of the agency was to find a well-known public personality who was
prepared to talk about her own experiences in this phase of life.
Communications specialist Beatrice Tschanz expressed a willingness to be
involved.
Implementation
The information evening took place in front of the filled ranks of the
large auditorium in the centre for teaching and research (ZLF) in Basle.
There was great interest and such a public onrush that the presentations
had to be simultaneously transmitted to a second auditorium. The event
was presented by the well-known PULS presenter, Daniela Biedermann.
Following an introduction by Prof. Martin Birkhäuser, President of the
Swiss Menopause Society, the speakers looked at the various aspects of
the change. Following the individual presentations, the public made
intensive use of the opportunity to ask questions. In the interview with
Daniela Biedermann, Beatrice Tschanz, as a professionally dedicated
woman, spoke openly of her attitude towards hormone therapy and its use.
At the end of the event the speakers all again responded to audience
questions.
