Osteoporosis Information Day
Task
Planning, organisation and implementation of the Osteoporosis
Information Day for donna mobile, Osteoporosis Working Party,
Switzerland. The idea was to encourage doctors and nutritional advisors
at the various locations of the event to attend. In addition to
providing information on the illness, the tasks and support of those
affected and their relatives by donna mobile occupied a central position
in the event.
Implementation
The occasion was staged in co-operation with hospitals in large towns in
Switzerland. The events were presented by Dr. Ellen Heitlinger, who also
interviewed patients. The latter spoke movingly of their long years of
suffering and how they found a way out of the vicious circle themselves.
Doctors provided information on osteoporosis, and nutritional advisors
elaborated on the importance of a calcium-rich diet and which foods are
calcium killers. The Osteo Gym Group with a physiotherapist and a number
of ladies who perform osteogym encouraged the public to join in specific
exercises to strengthen the posture and improve the equilibrium.
After the event, donna mobile extended an invitation to share in
calcium-rich delights at the buffet. At the stand, a free calcium test
could be completed, which gave information on obtaining calcium through
diet. A limited number of participants were able to take part in a draw,
thanks to donna mobile, for a free measurement of their bone density.
The lay press was made aware of these events, and this led to numerous
articles in daily newspapers, magazines and handbooks.
