Information Evening on Breast Cancer
and Chemotherapy

Task
Conception, organization and implementation of an information evening on breast cancer and chemotherapy. The event, sponsored by Aventis Pharma Schweiz in collaboration with the Krebsliga Schweiz, was oriented toward cancer patients, their relatives and other interested persons.

Implementation
In the setting of the Zürich Volkshaus, prominent doctors provided information about breast cancer and the treatment possibilities available today. The topics addressed included diagnosis, therapy and the current chances of being cured of this cancer. Some 500 patients, their relatives and other interested persons attended the event, which was moderated by Dr. Samuel Stutz. With great sensitivity he interviewed two patients, including the German author Annette Rexrodt von Fircks, who provided powerful and stirring accounts of their lives with the disease. Beatrice Tschanz Kramel, spokeswoman for Krebsliga Schweiz, described the work of this organization. These short talks were complemented by a multimedia presentation of scientific data and moving photographs of breast cancer patients. Dr. Samuel Stutz asked the audience about their personal experiences, and an intense exchange took place between the general public and the experts on the podium. The press were invited to a media conference prior to the event, leading to articles in many newspapers and journals as well as radio interviews and a feature on television.
